Classic profile and Slim profile: the differences
| Question | Classic profile | Slim profile |
|---|---|---|
| Visual character | More defined frame and traditional detail | Flatter profile and reduced visible framing |
| Design discussion | Coordinate moulding, grilles and existing trim | Coordinate clear views and minimal detailing |
| Research frame reference | 3¼-inch frame depth referenced | 2⅞-inch profile referenced |
| Compatibility | Verify the selected opening style and glass | Verify the selected opening style and glass |

Choose for the actual opening
Compare matching-sized samples side by side. Ask which measurement describes frame depth and which describes the visible sightline: these are different dimensions. A slimmer profile does not mean every part of the frame is proportionally smaller.
The research dimensions are preliminary references, not a promise for every unit. Public series names, exact dimensions and applicable performance documents must be approved against the actual Factory Lane product specification.
Bring your comparison into the showroom
Bring a photograph of the room and note what is not working now: light, airflow, access, appearance or comfort. A useful consultation narrows the options using those priorities instead of adding every possible upgrade.
Once the configuration is chosen, review dimensions, glass, finish, hardware, installation and finishing on the written quote. Equivalent scope is the basis of a fair price comparison.
Apply the comparison to a real room
When replacing a group of front-elevation windows, compare the proposed sightlines with the existing casing, grilles and brickmould. A flatter profile may suit a simpler composition, while a more defined frame can coordinate with traditional trim. View fixed and opening sections together.
Frame depth and visible frame width are different measurements. A quoted depth does not reveal how much daylight you gain. Ask for glass dimensions at the same outside frame size, and check the replacement method before drawing a conclusion about the finished view.
Make the two quotes comparable
| Check | How to compare |
|---|---|
| View from inside | Compare actual glass width and height. |
| View from outside | Check frame detail and grille alignment. |
| Wall fit | Review depth, jamb extensions and trim. |
| Compatibility | Confirm opening style, glass weight and hardware in the chosen series. |
